Costs involved include:
* Materials involved e.g. clay, slips, glazes, stains, kiln-wash, glass, moulds.
* Kiln firing costs - 2 or more firings at £40 per time.
* Additional display items etc.g. frames, holders, stands, gift boxes etc.
* They should also include time spent designing and creating items and doing admin.
Artists and craftspeople have to wear many different hats. Pieces have to be photographed for websites, text composed for listings, items measured to give a scale, uploaded to shops and websites, packaging sourced, and posted and weighed.
* I often do not charge for this, and certainly not an hourly rate, making only a few £s at most as even charging minimum wage would make pieces too expensive and I try to keep things affordable. People will pay £30 for an electrician etc. So when someone tries to haggle prices down it is highly insulting!
* My pieces are often one-off!
I make many different designs, often only 1 of each, I make different objects to try and cater for everyone, with different price points.
Blood, sweat and tears do go into making pieces, as well as developing art and craftware.
In order to get the cost of each firing down I will try and make other items and include them in the same firing so that firing costs can be divided between the number of items.
